Pain is physical. Yes, first and foremost, pain is a feeling in our bodies. It lets us know something is wrong.

Pain can be emotional. Loss. Grief. Heartbreak.

How is pain social? In what way does it affect the way we connect with others? When we constantly feel less than our best, it limits our ability to interact with the world around us.

The social aspect of pain is its most insidious side. Pain keeps us from the things we love: walking with our pets, playing with our kids, meeting with our friends. Without realizing it, we begin to limit activities, restrict ourselves, lose mobility. Pain can be isolating.

Pain can also bring us together. When we open up, we find that we are not alone. There are so many others that empathize with our struggles. Pain can bring us closer to our loved ones, or lead us to new connections.

Seeking help for chronic pain can ease not only physical symptoms, but also the emotional and even social manifestations that come with it. Working with a massage therapist can help you feel relief on all levels, and get back to living your life.
